Mendota After Hours: Women at the Heart of the Great War @ Sibley Historic Site

Have a drink with your friends and the Dakota County Historical Society as you learn about Minnesota’s history. This series offers fascinating stories of historic people, places, and events in a unique and intimate setting. Admission includes one free drink ticket and a cash bar for visitors that includes beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages.

June’s presentation will be “Women at the Very Heart of the Great War,” by author Ames Sheldon. In Sheldon’s novel “Eleanor’s Wars, ” she utilizes research on women during WWI to tell the story of a woman who drove ambulances during World War I. Readers get a glimpse of the effect her experiences had on her husband and children in the years that followed the war.

Mendota After Hours is a monthly event that takes place on the second Friday of each month from May thru November. The site will open at 5:30 p.m. for a social gathering, with the presentation starting at 6:00 p.m. Light food and beverages will be available, including a cash bar.

Must be 21+ to receive a free drink ticket, or to purchase alcoholic beverages. Proof of age will be required before a drink ticket and / or beverage is purchased.

Art in the River Valley @ Sibley Historic Site

Before you watch the Mendota Day Parade, stop by the DuPuis House on the grounds of the Sibley Historic Site!

Children ages 7-15 will be able to work with an art teacher and talk through the basics of painting landscapes. Utilizing easels and paint, visitors will get a sense of what it was like to actually attend the Sibley Art School!

After the parade, you are invited to take a tour of the site while your child’s masterpiece is drying. Normal tour rates apply.

Have a drink with your friends and the Dakota County Historical Society as you learn about Minnesota’s history. This series offers fascinating stories of historic people, places, and events in a unique and intimate setting. Admission includes one free drink ticket and a cash bar for visitors that includes beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages.

October’s presentation will be “Brewing in Minnesota,” by David Sandager. During his presentation, visitors will explore the history of Minnesota’s breweries through the decades. He will also share the three golden eras of brewing in Minnesota. Visitors will be treated to a fun night of learning from the beginning of Minnesota’s brewing industry to present day.
