Representative Mary Kunesh-Podein authored a bill to appropriate funds to enact a task force to start collecting data and make reports to the legislature regarding how to stop the epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women.

The topic of MMIW has gained awareness in recent years and while sex trafficking and the fossil fuel industry goes hand in hand, this issue has been plaguing our relatives for hundreds of years.

Last year this bill got wrapped up in a huge and dangerous omnibus bill and we lost it. NOT THIS YEAR. We must push for this bill to get a hearing on the House floor so that it can reach Governor Walz’s desk alone and get signed into law.

The bill language has been updated to include representation from all 11 Tribes in the State and that increases the dollar amount attached to the total cost.
