At our March SD52 Meeting we heard from a representative from Fair Vote MN
who shared a great deal of information on ranked choice voting. This method involves selecting not just one candidate when you go to vote, but an opportunity to select your second and third choice on your ballot so that your voice can still be heard if your first choice gets the least votes. The thought is that this will end third party candidates as “spoilers”, will allow more people to vote their values vs “electability” and will force candidates to build coalitions with less negative campaigning as they will also be vying to be your second choice.

Minneapolis, St. Paul and now St. Louis Park have approved rank choice voting for their local elections. Do you think it’s right for your community? Go to Fair Vote MN for more information!
