At our monthly meeting on Tuesday May 22nd, delegates for the state convention were able to ask questions of both candidates for MN state auditor, Julie Blaha and Jon Tollefson. This was followed by additional questions for the three gubernatorial candidates, Erin Murphy, Rebecca Otto and Tim Walz. Questions were far ranging, covering topics such as what their visions were for the state, criminal justice reform, preventing gun violence, bridging the urban/rural divide and honoring the endorsement process. These candidates showed us how committed they are to moving forward with an agenda for the state that better meets the needs of working class Minnesotans whether they are working downtown Minneapolis, on the iron range or on a local family farm. They all expressed a desire to lead with our values of quality, affordable health care, great public schools, racial and economic justice and protection of our cherished environment. It was really valuable seeing the candidates together to hear how they spoke about these important issues with us and among each other.
The DFL endorsing convention will begin on June 1st and run through the weekend, in Rochester, MN. You need not be a delegate to attend and observe the proceedings. Look for Darcy McKenzie in one of her amazing blue hats up in the nosebleed seats and you will find your place with others from SD52. We hope to see you there!
